Sailor Take Warning

In our ANG Chapter we issued a challenge  which was entitled Landscape Obsession (the chapter’s name is Magnificent Obsession).  We were presented with a set of lines to trace onto our canvases, and then various members taught different elements of landscape:  water, sky, trees, flowers, grass and hills, mountains, walls, fences, paths, etc.  The interpretation was left to the individual.

Sailor take Warning is my interpretation of this challenge. Everyone added flowers to brighten their scenes; I threw in the ubiquitous deer that inhabit our  territory, showing her munching on a tree, as they are wont to do.  But I finally decided I had to brighten up the composition—too much  blue and green—and so I depicted the rising sun, a very red sun, peeking up between two mountains in the distance.  The title, of course, refers to “Red sky at morning, sailor take warning.”
