Florida Palm

In Florida palm trees are ubiquitous, and there are so many different kinds. All are appealing, as they conjure thoughts of salubrious weather and relaxing times. The palm tree has become an icon of the beautiful tropics, always beckoning the winter weary to its shores.

The palm pictured here features wide leafy fronds, worked in either fishbone or feather stitch. The trunk is composed of a plaited stitch worked in the new thread Sea Grass. On the left the border is made of shaded Norwich stitch plus some simple Florentine. On the right there is a variety of interesting combinations of stitches including a 6-color herringbone, and a variation of Point du Tresse. The entire scene is completed with a real sea star, which will be supplied by the teacher. Some beads and sequins complete the design.
